Brady Tkachuk’s Quiet Panthers Start Sets a Career First Through Four Games
Tkachuk has no points through four games for Florida, the first scoreless opening stretch of that length in his NHL career.

Brady Tkachuk’s first four games in Florida have produced a career first: he has yet to record a point through the opening stretch. That’s a notable early pause for a player who arrived as the Panthers’ biggest offseason addition, though four games offer only a narrow read on how he’ll fit with his new club.
Florida is 2-0-2 heading into Saturday night’s home opener against Minnesota. Eleven of the 22 players who have dressed have registered at least one point. Sam Bennett, Lars Eller and Matthew Tkachuk lead the team with three apiece, while seven players who have appeared in all four games remain scoreless. Brady is among them.
A different opening pace
The contrast with Tkachuk’s previous season starts is clear in his first-four-game totals with Ottawa:
- 2018-19: 3 goals, 3 assists, 6 points, 4 penalty minutes
- 2019-20: 2 goals, 1 assist, 3 points, 4 penalty minutes
- 2020-21: 1 goal, 2 assists, 3 points, 9 penalty minutes
- 2021-22: 1 goal, 2 assists, 3 points, 17 penalty minutes
- 2022-23: 2 goals, 4 assists, 6 points, 2 penalty minutes
- 2023-24: 4 goals, 1 assist, 5 points, 4 penalty minutes
- 2024-25: 1 goal, 5 assists, 6 points, 6 penalty minutes
- 2025-26: 0 goals, 4 assists, 4 points, 4 penalty minutes
Even his least productive opening on that list brought three points. The current drought is therefore a personal outlier, but it doesn’t erase the broader record: Tkachuk has been a regular source of offense and physical play over a long NHL career.
The fourth overall pick in the 2018 draft spent eight seasons with Ottawa and captained the Senators for his final five. In 572 games there, he recorded 463 points and 821 penalty minutes, and reached the 30-goal mark three times. Florida acquired him in June, setting up the unusual chance to play alongside his brother, Matthew. A new club brings a different setting and new combinations, even for a player with years of experience.
Last season offers a useful comparison, with a caveat. Tkachuk played Ottawa’s first three games, then missed time with an injury before returning on November 28. He still averaged a point per game across his first four appearances. Over 32 games, he scored 14 goals and had 36 points. That short sample shows how quickly his production can build once he is in the lineup, but it doesn’t make the current four-game stretch a reliable forecast.
New surroundings, familiar challenge
Tkachuk is adjusting to a new team, city and organization for the first time in his NHL career. A coaching change or unfamiliar system can require adjustment, but his Ottawa tenure included five different coaches in eight years. The more immediate question may be how Florida’s line combinations settle and whether the players around him begin converting their chances.
Sam Reinhart, a likely factor in that picture, is also without a point through four games. It’s the first time since joining Florida in 2021 that he has opened a season scoreless over that span. Brad Marchand is the only player from the listed second line with a point, and he suffered a lower-body injury Tuesday in Los Angeles. That leaves Florida’s early production around Tkachuk’s line worth watching as the team works through its opening games.
There are encouraging signs from before the regular season: Tkachuk had five points in two preseason games. Preseason scoring can’t guarantee a quick start, but it does show that he found offense in Florida’s environment before the games began to count. His job now is to turn that promise into regular-season production, whether through his own shots or the chances he creates for his linemates.
The Panthers have received points from half of the players who have dressed, and their 2-0-2 record gives them room to let new combinations develop. That spread of early scoring is a positive for a team whose depth drew questions before the season. Still, a four-game snapshot can’t settle whether that production will hold or how much the team will rely on its top players once the schedule advances.
For Tkachuk, the clearest takeaway is modest: this is the quietest opening four-game stretch of his NHL career, and it comes as he starts over in a new uniform. Florida’s home opener gives him an early chance to change the line in his season totals. The more telling measure will be how his role and connection with Reinhart develop over the games that follow.
